What's New with RADON GAS:
 **NEW**
Beginning on March 1, 2023, Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DCF) will require licensed family and group child care providers in Wisconsin to test for radon and mitigate radon if needed. This rule change applies to licensed (not certified) child care providers only.

According to the State of Wisconsin website, 1 in 10 homes tested, has been found to have elevated levels of Radon gas. These levels are above the threshold set by the EPA (environmental Protection Agency), as in need of mitigation to prevent possible health issues. One of the great things happening in Wisconsin is the creation of "RADON INFORMATION CENTERS". These centers, set up by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, provide factual information about radon to residence of the state. There are currently 17 specific Radon Information centers, each covering a select number of counties within the state. You can find the center that covers your county at the following link.
                       https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/radon/infocenters.htm
These centers are staffed with people knowledgeable in Radon and should be able to answer any questions you have about the effects of Radon, whether your home should be tested, and so on.

For residential use, these centers can provide "at home" test kits. These kits are usually long-term kits that should be placed in the lowest occupied level of the home for an extended period of time to gain the best results. The number of testing devices are determined by size of home and sometimes by shape of foundation and/or construction. Usually, the longer the at-home test is operated, the more accurate the test results should be. Read the instructions carefully for number of tests needed, placement locations and handling for the most accurate results.

An alternative to a lengthy home test, is to have a Certified Radon Professional place a CRM device (Continuous Radon Monitor) in your home for 48 to 54 hours depending on the conditions at the time, and then receiving the results within minutes after the test is complete. These monitors are calibrated each year by third party testing labs for their accuracy and provide an analysis that is sent directly to you in an easy-to-understand format. These tests are provided by a Radon Professional that has undergone education and certification in the properties of Radon gas and its effects.  Radon professionals, like Northern Waters Inspections and Testing, can be used as a resource for any questions related to Radon gas, as well as anything else related to a healthy home.

For your Peace of Mind, and to ensure your family is in a healthy home, contact the nearest Radon Info Center, or contact Northern Waters Inspections and Testing to have your home tested for this harmful gas.
